Crocheted Baskets

These are pictures of a basket made from a Workbasket Magazine Pattern.
The basket has seven little pansies across the top.
The pattern can be found in the August 1954 issue of Workbasket Magazine.

Please note that there are errors in the instructions for Row 8 and Row 9.
I have made a diagram of Row 8 and Row 9,
to illustrate how the stitches in Row 9 should be made over Row 8:

This first basket was made for Noel,
as part of Leslie's Round Robin
on the silkribbon@yahoogroups.com mailing list.

This second basket was made for Caroll,
as part of the Euro/US Round Robin
on the silkribbon@yahoogroups.com mailing list.

Following are pictures of a little basket that I made from a pattern
shared by Elaine Bounds (and included her with her permission)
on the crazyquilt@quiltropolis.com mailing list.

Here is Elaine's message and pattern:

"Ok, some of you asked about directions for my little crocheted flower basket motif so I tried to write it out so you can make some.

Please let me know if you have any corrections or suggestions. This takes probably no more than 10 minutes to make. It makes a small basket maybe 1 1/2 inches high plus the handle. This size fits nicely into a little CQ patch. Just use this as a guide. You can make it bigger/smaller by adding or subtracting those first few rows. After you sew it onto your CQ you can add a pile of french knots on top to make it look like the basket is filled with flowers. Sometimes I let them
"spill" over the edge. If you want to you can add strands of thread to make it look like greenery in with the flowers. Sorry I can't scan a picture. My scanner is not speaking to my computer right now.

Tiny Flower Basket Motif
by Elaine Bounds

Use size 10 thread and size 7 hook. I use ecru or tan but you can use any color that looks like a basket. I have a ball of tan with a little sparkle running thru it which looks good.

Ch 6
Row 1. HD in 2nd stitch and across. Ch 2 Turn (5 hdc)
Row 2. DC in 1st hdc and each hdc across. Ch 2 turn (5 dc)
Row 3 HDC in 1st DC and HDC across ch 4 turn (5 hdc
Row 4 3 dtr (double triple) in 1st stitch and 3 dtr in each hdc across and 4 dtr in the last stitch. Ch 1 turn
(If you want the top fuller looking, make 4 dtr in each hdc across)
Row 5 s/c across ...ch 1 turn
Row 6 s/c halfway across row. to make handle chain 25 then go back to where you started to chain, skip one stitch then sc across the rest of the row.

Finish off.

This is not copywritten...just out of my head...so feel free to use it ...and if you make a zillion dollars by including it in a book sometime...send me half of it. LOL.

These are little baskets that I made from the following online pattern:
http://members.optusnet.com.au/we2/basketofsunflowers.html

I changed the handle--instead of doubling it in the center of the basket,
I attached it from side to side.
Also, I preferred making the baskets from size 20 and size 30 thread.
