  STEP 11. Laying the ribbon over the index finger of my left hand, I am able to push the ribbon over the end of the needle, wobbling the needle with my right hand, to pick up 5 or 6 stitches. Don't worry about the stitches being even or evenly spaced--the uneven gathering stitches will add interest to your petal.
